Diamonds were created from deposits from an ocean bottom

Exact conditions under which the most solid minerals on the planet are formed remain unknown. Scientists found confirmation of the theory that initial substrate for formation of diamonds are deposits at the bottom of oceans. Writes N 1 with reference to Science Advances about it on May 31. The laboratory trials imitating conditions at a depth of hundreds kilometers showed that reactions of substances from a bottom of oceans reproduce the composition of salts observed in diamonds. Diamond - one of carbon modifications which is formed with a high pressure. In case of Earth suitable conditions are created in the top layers of a cloak at a depth of couples hundreds kilometers. However exact conditions under which diamonds are formed, nevertheless, remain unknown. In particular, it is not possible to explain high relative concentrations of salts of potassium in relation to the similar compounds of sodium dissolved in liquid inclusions in diamonds. The similar balance of elements is not predicted for a cloak. Botswana found the most rare blue diamond the Team of scientists under the leadership of Michael Ferster from the Makkuori University in Australia tried to reproduce conditions in a cloak, heating and squeezing the sample containing the deposits lifted from an ocean floor, and a peridotite - typical mineral from the top cloak. Experiments were made with a pressure from three to six gigapascals and temperature from 800 to 1100 degrees Celsius that corresponds to environment parameters in a cloak at a depth from 100 to 200 kilometers. Results allowed to put forward to authors the modified theory of origin of diamonds and their inclusions. According to it, the site of an oceanic bottom has to fall by depth not less than 200 kilometers. This immersion has to proceed quickly enough as high pressure has to have effect before full fusion of substance. In the south of Africa found rare diamond in 72 carats During this process the water locked in clays and deposits will also appear at a depth where dissolution of surrounding substances and reaction with peridotites will allow to be formed the necessary mix from which diamonds with inclusions crystallize then. Nevertheless, there are data on origin of some diamonds at much big depths and also on early Earth, and to such stones the new theory is inapplicable. Last year scientists found huge reserves of diamonds which cannot be taken as they are in cratons - ancient platforms of Precambrian age. News from the Correspondent.netv of Telegram.
