Archeologists found 2300-year fortress in Egypt

The protective construction was constructed at the time of board of a dynasty Ptolemeev, descendants of one of Alexander of Macedon's generals. The team of archeologists from Poland and the USA found in Egypt a 2300-year fort which protected the ancient port of Berenis and was necessary for transportation of elephants, Live Science writes the Protective construction was constructed at the time of board of a dynasty Ptolemeev, descendants of one of Alexander of Macedon's generals. "The double line of walls protected the western part of fortress while there was enough one line for strengthenings in the east and the North. Square towers were constructed on corners and in strategic places where sites of walls connected", - archeologists Marek Wozniak and Joanna Radkovska noted. The western part of a fort consisting of double walls is turned in the country that says that defenders were especially concerned by attack from this direction, representatives of the Polish center of the Mediterranean archeology in the Warsaw university are sure. The biggest and most strengthened part of fortress of Berenice represents a complex about 160 meters long and 80 meters wide, consisting of three big courtyards and several related constructions forming the closed strengthened complex of workshops and shops. In fortress gate archeologists found the well which is cut down in the rock and a number of drains and pools which collected, stored and distributed both soil, and rain waters. Two biggest pools, perhaps, had the general volume more than 17,000 liters. The fact of collecting of rain water assumes that in Berenis there was more humid climate, than now. On South side of a northern defensive wall, on an ancient garbage dump, archeologists found terracotta figurines, coins and a piece of a skull of an elephant. Historical records show that Berenice was a part of a chain of the ports built along the Red Sea to help to supply with military elephants of Ptolemeev army, Wozniak told. In 2014 the genetic research showed that Ptolemaeus probably imported the elephants from Eritrea to East Africa. The skull of an elephant confirms this assumption. Let's remind that in December, 2018 archeologists found an untouched tomb with exclusively well remained drawings in Egypt.
